Platforms And Imports

How to sync an MT4 account to a forex journal

A CSV import is useful for historical review. A terminal sync is for the next trade: it can keep the account balance, closed trades, open positions, and account activity current without handing over a broker password.

What the MT4 publisher does

The TFFP MT4 publisher is a read-only Expert Advisor. It sends journal-relevant account data to your TFFP connection over HTTPS: account balance and equity, closed trades, open positions, and meaningful account activity such as deposits or swaps.

It cannot place, modify, or close trades. It does not use your broker password, does not use DLLs, and does not turn TFFP into a trading platform. Your connection token is private and should never be shared.

Setup Checklist

Connect MT4 in eight deliberate steps

1. Create the matching TFFP account. Add the live, demo, or prop account that represents this MT4 terminal. Keep each broker account separate so the review remains honest.

2. Create an MT4 terminal connection. In Terminal Sync, choose that account and MetaTrader 4. Copy the token when it is displayed; it is only shown once.

3. Download the compiled EA. Download the .ex4 file from Terminal Sync and place it in the terminal's MQL4/Experts folder.

4. Allow the secure WebRequest URL. In MT4, open Tools → Options → Expert Advisors and add https://tradingforexforprofit.com to allowed WebRequest URLs.

5. Attach it to one chart. Drag the publisher onto one chart only. Enter the private token, leave syncing enabled, and use a modest first history lookback.

6. Confirm the log. A successful first request shows HTTP=200 in the Experts or Journal tab. Review the matching TFFP account after the sync completes.

7. Expand history gradually. If you have years of history, use a limited item count and date window first. Work backward in smaller batches instead of asking the terminal to send everything at once.

8. Re-migrate a MetaQuotes VPS. After installing or changing the EA on your desktop terminal, synchronize or migrate the terminal to MetaQuotes VPS again so the active EA and WebRequest permission are copied.

Understand what reaches the journal

Closed trades become journal results. Open positions provide current account context. Deposits, withdrawals, credits, swaps, and similar balance changes belong to account activity rather than strategy P&L.

The sync is designed to recognize matching broker references, so routine updates revise existing records instead of intentionally recreating them. Review an initial history load before relying on it for performance decisions.

Quick troubleshooting

HTTP -1 or error 4060: add the exact HTTPS address to MT4 WebRequest permissions, then reattach or restart the EA.

HTTP 422: confirm you pasted the token for the intended MT4 connection and are running the current compiled publisher version.

HTTP 200 but missing history: increase the lookback window or history item limit in careful batches, and confirm the MT4 Account History tab is set to the desired period.
